MARTIN ON UEFA CUP BYE

Martin Jol said that receiving a bye through to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup will provide welcome training time for the team this month.

Martin Jol said that receiving a bye through to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup will provide welcome training time for the team this month. Our Round of 32 opponents Feyenoord were disqualified by UEFA from the competition and Court of Arbitration for Sport today declared that the decision has been upheld following an appeal.

The result of this means Martin now has a clear week to work with the players ahead of our FA Cup 5th round trip to Fulham, while our visit to Everton has now been confirmed for February 21.

“I said before that we were happy to play anywhere and any time in the UEFA Cup because we want to play in Europe," reacted the manager to this morning's announcement.

“The decision allows us more time to work on the training ground though. We’ve played a tremendous amount of games in all competitions in the last three months so it’s an advantage for us to have a little rest and spend some quality time on the training pitch.”
