MARTIN HAPPY

Martin Jol declared himself happy with the display put on by the team in the 3-0 victory over Stevenage Borough at Broadhall Way.

Martin Jol declared himself happy with the display put on by the team in the 3-0 victory over Stevenage Borough at Broadhall Way.

In a game that was mostly one-way traffic, the goals didn't flow due to the performance of home goalkeeper Danny Potter who made some 15 saves that were far from routine.

Jermain Defoe did have the beating of him in the first half with an excellent spin and shot from inside the area in the first half and then it was a tale of two penalties late in the second period - one scored by Dimitar Berbatov after he was bundled over and the other netted by Jermain when he was victim of a trip.

It all added up to a comfortable looking scoreline, but it could have been much greater and Martin was pleased with the creative play of the side.

"The goalkeeper had a very good evening - he was terrific," he reflected. "I think it is normal when you are three weeks into your preparation, you are not as sharp and we haven't done a lot of finishing.

"We created a lot though and it was a joy to watch the lads attack them. I think we played well, Stevenage gave us a good game and overall we can be pretty happy.

"We played a very good Spurs team and we will play another very good team against Bishops Stortford on Wednesday."
