Marney hits the Town
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Dean Marney popped back to Spurs Lodge this week and reported that all is going well with his loan switch to Gillingham Town.
It is a tough assignment for the versatile midfielder with the Kent outfit struggling in the bottom three of the Championship, but he is happy to top up his experience of first team football.
Dean has so far featured in a goalless draw away to Sheffield United and a home defeat to Derby County.
"It's going alright," he reflected. "In the first game we defended really well while not creating much going forward, then Saturday was really disappointing. We felt it was the chance to get three points but didn't.
"It's not an easy one, it is quite similar to when I went on loan to Swindon, they were in a bad situation but I managed to do well down there and I am hoping for the same again."
The product of the Spurs Academy has been employed in the right-back position since switching to the Priestfield Stadium after recently being given the chance to shine for the reserves in his favoured central midfield.
"When I went there they said it was just for the Sheffield United game and I would play centre-midfield after that. It happened that we defended well against Sheffield and he wanted to keep it together.
"I've always felt central midfield is my best position but where the manager views you as best is where you've got to play and you've got to take the chance."
Dean admits that it was a bit of a wrench making a temporary departure with the reserve side on such a good run of results under Clive Allen, but was not about to miss the chance to test himself on the Championship stage.
"The reserve games were going well and I was playing centre midfield, but the opportunity to play Championship football doesn't come around often and it is too good a chance to miss.
"It is frantic football and doesn't seem to slow down really. Sometimes there is not as much passing as I maybe thought there would be, but there is a lot at stake."
So where to next on his Championship journey?
"Crewe away - a nice little journey!"
