If this match is half as good the corresponding fixture back in September, then those spectators lucky enough to be inside Old Trafford on Wednesday night are in for a real treat. Manchester United's amazing comeback at White Hart Lane is sure to be remembered as one of the highlights of the season, but any sort of win in the return is likely to hold far more significance.

Tottenham visit the home of the champions still reeling from their surprise Worthington Cup final defeat, though they are more than capable of causing an upset of their own in this one. Glenn Hoddle's side must show a drastic improvement in their league form if they are to qualify for Europe, and what better place to start than with a win at the title favourites.

At this stage of the season points rather than performances are what counts, and goals in particular are a precious commodity. It is Manchester United's ability to offer a scoring threat from all areas of the pitch that makes them such a formidable outfit, and players like Paul Scholes typify this strength.

The England midfielder struggled at the start of the campaign playing in an unfamiliar role as a withdrawn striker, but having been restored to his favoured position, he is starting to look like his old self. Scholes has bagged five Premiership goals this term and is currently United's most accurate shooter - hitting the target with 60% of his efforts.

If he is not scoring, then the man known as the Ginger Prince is likely to be causing havoc to opposing defences with his clever range of passes. To date Scholes has created four goals for his side and carved out a further 31 shooting opportunities for his team-mates. Having worked with him at international level, Hoddle is certain to have made special dispensation to deal with the United number 18 on Wednesday.

In the Tottenham line-up will be a player who'll look to play just as influential a role from deep as Scholes. Gustavo Poyet was signed from Chelsea in the summer with the reputation as a goalscoring midfielder and, despite his advancing years, he has certainly lived up to this billing.

The Uruguayan has netted 12 times in all competition this season, with only Les Ferdinand managing more for Tottenham so far and he is rated at 12/1 to open the scoring as he did against Sunderland at the weekend. It is his strength in the air which has characterised his time in the Premiership and only six other players have had more headed efforts this season than the ex-Real Zaragoza man.

Not only does Poyet weigh in with more than his fair share of goals, but his passing ability also marks him out as a dangerous opponent. The South American has completed a decent 75% of his distribution this term, including three assists, so United will want to keep a close eye on him.
