Alfie Inge Haaland v
Ledley King

Two sides whose seasons have not gone to plan so far meet this weekend at Maine Road, with both needing the points for very different reasons. If Manchester City are to avoid relegation, and Tottenham are to retain any dignity from an indifferent season, the likes of Alf Inge Haaland and Ledley King in the midfield will be crucial to the cause.

Haaland has become one of the most popular players with the City faithful thanks to his general commitment and his desire for every ball. His respectable tackle success ratio of 74% has shown that, while he may not have the flair and creativity of some of the Premiership's other stars, he is always up for the battle, along with the rest of the Manchester City side.

King has been a revelation for Spurs this season. Although spending the early part of his career in the defence, manager George Graham has converted him to the midfield, where he has continued his good tackling and pestering of the opposition, winning 78% of his challenges during the campaign.

In terms of passing accuracy, there can be no doubt that King has been the more successful of the two - Haaland's accuracy of 64% is easily bettered by King's own 74% success rate. The Spurs man has also maintained a higher accuracy in the opposition half by a considerable margin.

Both players have been on the scoresheet this season. Haaland has scored three times, including the second in City's 2-0 win over Bradford, while King scored in the opening minute of his own side's match against the Bantams. The City man has been more adventurous however, attempting 21 shots more than his Spurs counterpart.

However, Haaland has also been more daring than King in terms of seeing how much he can get away with in front of the referee. Despite spending only twice as much time on the field, Haaland has committed seven times as many misdemeanours as King, and with four bookings to his name he will need to tread more carefully to avoid an automatic ban.

With Spurs yet to win away all season, and with City in trouble near the foot of the table, this looks likely to be a close affair, and the likes of Alf Inge Haaland and Ledley King may well have the biggest impact in the centre of the park. are offering 80/1 on Haaland opening the scoring for City before being pegged back for 1-1 draw, a result that would do little for the hopes of either side.
