Mabbsy's call

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

The legendary Gary Mabbutt is leading the rallying call for the fans to lift the roof off the Lane on Sunday.

Mabbsy, 18 years at the club and most as captain, says he understands the fans frustration of late but insists now is the time to channel everything into supporting the lads as Arsenal come to N17 with the Premiership title in their sights.

"The team has been going through a tough period but it's very important the fans get behind the lads," said Gary, who led us to that famous FA Cup semi-final victory over the Gunners at Wembley in 1991.

"It's been a topsy-turvy season with some good spells and bad spells. Any extra backing the lads can get will be a huge benefit but I'm sure the players won't need any extra motivation.

"When we were third from bottom around Christmas the team produced a run of victories so they have shown they have the character and they just need to break this run.

"There will be no better place to do it than against Arsenal and I believe we have a great opportunity to be the only team to beat Arsenal in the Premiership this season.

"I've spoken to a few people on the Arsenal side and they also have this horrible feeling that this could be the game.

"Arsenal are a superb side and deserve to be where they are but I still feel, and it's showed over the last few games, they can be beaten.

"They will be nervous coming to White Hart Lane. They were lucky to get a point last season and I'm confident we can get something from it."

Gary added that the fans support meant everything to him throughout his years at the club.

"I remember back in 1987 I had a chance to go to United, Arsenal came in for me, Liverpool, go abroad - my contract was up at Tottenham.

"I enjoyed my time at Tottenham but more importantly, from the moment I arrived at the club, the fans took to me very quickly.

"My relationship with the supporters meant a huge amount to me and means a huge amount to the players.

"The fans were always behind me and this is the time when the fans really need to get behind the team.

"There have been a couple of games when we haven't performed well enough to get the crowd going but that's when you want the fans to lift everyone by singing and shouting. That's what the fans can create and I'm sure for this game no-one will need motivating to give us that."

*If you are coming to the game on Sunday, please ensure that you arrive at the ground in good time to take your seat as there will be security checks at the turnstiles.
