Mabbsy launches Foundation walking club at Chase Farm Hospital
03 October 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Gary Mabbutt visited Chase Farm Hospital to officially open a new healthy eating café, outdoor gym and walking club led by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation as part of a borough-wide drive to get the local community living healthy, active lifestyles.
Over 65 per cent of adults and 41 per cent of children aged 10-11 in Enfield are classed as overweight or obese.
In a bid to tackle these issues, Chase Farm Hospital Trust is working with its partners including Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, Enfield Council, Macmillan and Medirest, to encourage adults to eat healthier and take up regular exercise.
The Foundation will run its hour-long Walk The Walk sessions every Wednesday afternoon from 1pm at Chase Farm Hospital for staff, patients, visitors and local residents. This follows the success of the Foundation’s Walk The Walk programme in Haringey which was launched earlier this year.
Gary, alongside hospital director Fiona Jackson, cut a ribbon to mark the opening of the healthy eating café and later joined walking group participants on their inaugural route around the hospital’s grounds.
The Enfield-based hospital is currently undergoing major redevelopment works which includes investment in an on-site outdoor gym and healthy eating café which is open to staff, patients, visitors and the local community.
Fiona Jackson, director of Chase Farm Hospital, said: “We want to encourage and support our patients, staff and the local community to get fit and healthy and are delighted our partners are working with us to achieve this.”
Gary said: “Doing regular exercise doesn’t have to involve gym subscriptions – something as simple as taking regular walks can be a great way to stay fit and healthy. The Foundation’s walking group here at Chase Farm Hospital is free to attend and I’d encourage anyone living close by to join in with the sessions on a Wednesday afternoon.”
The Foundation delivers a number of health and wellbeing programmes at Chase Farm Hospital including its After Cancer Exercise programme and seated exercise classes. For more information please contact Katrina.firstname.lastname@example.org
