Mabbsy in Malaysia!
Club Ambassador and legendary former captain Gary Mabbutt attended a historic night for the newly-formed Malaysian Spurs Football Supporters Club.
'Mabbsy’, who had been in Malaysia doing some media work, was invited to dinner with the members of the club and shared stories of his Spurs playing days.
The former defender also drew a raffle for guests and signed autographs for all those in attendance at the Seri Pacific Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
As a token of the Supporters Club’s appreciation, Gary was presented with a framed Keris – an ancient weapon used by Malay warriors symbolising bravery.
Jack Wong, President of Malaysia Spurs, said: "Eight or nine years ago, when a small group of us were wandering from pub to pub in Sri Hartamas searching desperately for a venue that would feature our live matches, never in my wildest dreams could I envisage sitting next to Gary Mabbutt, chatting over dinner.
“But I did and my feet have not touched the ground since! I am sure, looking at the happy faces that night, that all of us who attended felt the same way, up close with one of our football heroes.
“I grew up in awe of players like Perryman, Ardiles, Hoddle, Roberts and Waddle, and I left Seri Pacific Hotel that night still in awe of their illustrious team-mate and a wonderful ambassador of our beloved club.”
