Lowe on Glenn exit

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe expressed his disappointment over Glenn Hoddle’s resignation from the South Coast club to take up a proposed, but yet to be confirmed switch to Spurs.

Lowe confirmed that Saints had received an approach from the board for permission to talk to Glenn regarding the vacant post at the Lane.

Lowe said in a prepared statement: “I asked Glenn if he wished to pursue this enquiry and he confirmed that he did. I understand that Glenn and his agent met senior management at Tottenham last night, a meeting that had been postponed from earlier in the day.

“At 10pm last night I received a phone call from Glenn to say he wished to end his employment at Southampton with immediate effect and join Tottenham Hotspur as their manager.”

The Southampton chairman did admit that Glenn’s departure is a major blow for a progressive club who are set to move into a new stadium in time for the next campaign.

“I was also disappointed that Glenn had chosen to turn his back on the club that gave him the opportunity to resume his career in top-flight management and on a squad which he had welded into an exciting team and who, in return, had given him their unconditional loyalty as evidenced by the string of recent important contract extensions.

“I am also sure that our fans will share my regret at what has happened as they too have given Glenn every support and been an important component in his success. Glenn has chosen to leave the team with a European place in sight and a new stadium only five months from completion.”
