Lover-lee for Pat
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Young Lee Barnard is starting to answer Pat Holland’s burning question.
The 16-year-old was the goal hero in the Times FA Youth Cup third round triumph against Bradford City at the Lane.
With us trailing 2-1 in the prestigious Under-18 competition, Barnard struck twice in as many minutes in the second half to turn the game in our favour. We went on to win 4-2.
Barnard has already impressed Under-19s boss Pat this season. Playing under his age group, he has scored in his last two games as well — a long way from just a couple of years ago when Pat used to see a young substitute at Under-14 level and think ‘I wonder what he’s like’.
Pat enthused: “It’s early days for Lee. In fairness when I first came to the club he was an Under-14 player and didn’t get many games, I think he had a slight injury and he was permanently sub. I used to look at him and think ‘I wonder what he’s like’.
“He’s a lovely kid, he’s done well and he’s come in for me in a couple of games and scored in both.
“He got another two tonight (Tuesday) but the biggest thing for me is his attitude and work rate. He’s got a lot to work on in his game but he’s the type of boy who will do that and one day, who knows?”
We will now take on Stockport or Watford in the fourth round, to be played on or before January 20.
Meanwhile, Barnard’s team-mates Ben Bowditch and Marcel McKie are in their respective England Under-17 and Under-16 squads for the double-header against France at Charlton on December 6.
