Loan watch - midweek update

Danny Rose scored a fantastic first goal for Sunderland against Villa - but it went downhill from there at Villa Park on Monday night.

Full-back Danny played a couple of one-twos and finished in style to equalise just minutes after Ron Vlaar opened the scoring for Villa.

Andreas Weimann put Villa 2-1 up by half-time and Christian Benteke grabbed a hat-trick in the second half as Villa ran out 6-1 winners.

The result moved Villa level with Sunderland and Newcastle on 37 points - five clear of the drop zone.

Meanwhile, Adam Smith is preparing for a huge game in the Championship as Millwall take on Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

The Lions have slipped down to 20th and are just a point clear of the relegation zone. They have a game in hand - tonight's derby against Palace, who need points themselves to guarantee a place in the play-offs.

After Palace, Millwall travel to Derby on the final day on Saturday.

Adam was back in Millwall's starting line-up and played 90 minutes as the Lions suffered a 1-0 loss at home to Forest on Saturday. It could have been worse but the full-back cleared a goalbound effort from Andy Reid off the line.

Harry Kane and Leicester will be keeping a close eye on events at the New Den.

The striker headed home from Paul Konchesky's cross within three minutes of arriving as a 58th minute substitute but it wasn't enough as the Foxes lost 2-1 against Watford on Friday night.

That result left Leicester in eighth place but still with hope of reaching the play-offs - and they travel to seventh-placed Forest on Saturday.

Back at the other end of the table, Alex Pritchard made his first start for Peterborough United and made an impact as Posh secured a valuable win against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The tricky forward was fouled for a free-kick that was curled home by Grant McCann for the only goal of the game in the 64th minute at London Road.

That win lifted Posh out of the drop zone and they can stay there with a win at Palace on Saturday.

Staying in the Championship, Jon Obika came on in the 80th minute as Charlton's faint hopes of a play-off place were dashed by a 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough. David Bentley was an unused substitute in Blackburn's 1-1 draw against Palace.

Nathan Byrne and Massimo Luongo are preparing for the play-offs in League One at Swindon.

They both played 90 minutes as the Robins lost 3-1 in their final match at Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Swindon finished sixth in the table and will now take on third-placed Brentford over two legs - home on Saturday, away on Monday, May 6 - for a place in the play-off final at Wembley. The other semi-final is between Yeovil and Sheffield United.

Away from the UK, John Bostock came on at the start of the second half as Toronto lost 2-1 against New York Red Bulls in the MLS, while Souleymane Coulibaly came on in the 76th minute as Grosseto drew 0-0 against Pro Vercelli in Italy's Serie B.
