Loan watch - lads involved in final day drama

A handful of our loanees were to the fore on a dramatic final weekend of action in the Football League.
As the regulation season drew to a close in the Championship on Saturday, Alex Pritchard scored a 26th-minute free-kick for Brentford – setting the Bees on the way to a 3-0 home win over Wigan Athletic as his side secured a place in the end-of-season play-offs.
Midfielder Alex, who celebrated his 22nd birthday on Sunday, completed 71 minutes with the Bees ending up fifth in the final table. They can now look forward to a play-off semi-final clash with Ryan Fredericks’ Middlesbrough.
The final day in League One was on Sunday, with Dele Alli helping MK Dons thrash Yeovil Town 5-1 at home to clinch automatic promotion via a second place finish, while Bongani Khumalo’s Colchester United dramatically avoided relegation – as did Grant Ward and Coventry City.
Midfielder Dele – who was this week named Players’ Player of the Year at the Dons – completed the full 90 minutes, his side leapfrogging Preston North End to avoid the play-offs and seal their place in the Championship for next season.
Bongani, meanwhile, helped his side keep a clean sheet as they won 1-0 at home to Preston to stay up on the final day at the expense of Crawley Town, Notts County and Leyton Orient. The centre-half once again played the full game.
Elsewhere, Coventry needed a point from their trip to Crawley Town to guarantee survival in the third tier, but they duly got all three thanks to a 2-1 win – midfielder Grant ever-present as usual.
In League Two on Saturday, forward Shaq Coulthirst started and played 78 minutes for York City as they drew 1-1 at Portsmouth while attacker Nathan Oduwa was an unused substitute for Luton Town in their 2-0 home win over Stevenage.
Premier League action on Saturday saw winger Aaron Lennon complete 90 minutes for Everton in their 3-2 defeat at Aston Villa while, back in the Championship, goalkeeper Jordan Archer was on the bench for already relegated Millwall as they lost 4-2 at Wolves.
In Italy, Tomislav Gomelt was an unused substitute for Bari in their 1-0 home win over Cittadella in Serie B, as was Lewis Holtby for Hamburg in Germany – the midfielder’s side registering a 2-1 Bundesliga victory at Mainz 05.
