Grant Ward helped Chicago Fire bring a winning end to their MLS campaign with a 2-1 home victory over Houston Dynamo on another busy weekend for our loanees.
Our on-loan midfielder stepped off the bench just after the hour mark with his side trailing 1-0 – promptly winning a penalty from which Jeff Larentowicz got the Fire back on level terms.
And it was from Grant’s right wing cross that Florent Sinama-Pongolle secured the victory for the home side in stoppage time at the end of the game.
In the Premier League, Tom Carroll was a 58th minute substitute for Swansea City in their 2-0 home win over Leicester City on Saturday while, in the Championship, Ryan Fredericks played 90 minutes for Middlesbrough – with Milos Veljkovic an unused substitute – as they drew 1-1 at home to Watford.
It was a weekend to forget for our other two loanees in the Championship, however, with Alex Pritchard playing 81 minutes for Brentford in their 3-1 reverse at Bolton Wanderers while Grant Hall was part of the Birmingham City side that lost 8-0 at home to Bournemouth.
Kenny McEvoy was an unused substitute for Peterborough United in their 3-2 League One defeat at Coventry City, as was Shaq Coulthirst for League Two Southend United – the Shrimpers battling out a 1-1 home draw with Bury.
Jordan Archer and Northampton Town, meanwhile, conceded a late goal to lose 1-0 at Luton Town, also in League Two.
In Germany, Lewis Holtby was introduced as a half-time substitute for Hamburg in their 3-0 Bundesliga loss at Hertha Berlin.
