Grant Ward was once again in the thick of the action as Chicago Fire beat Atlanta Silverbacks 3-1 in their US Open Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night (Thursday morning, UK time).
Our on-loan midfielder played the full game for the MLS side and was a key figure in the build-up to Fire’s third goal of the night.
His shot was blocked by Silverbacks goalkeeper Derby Carrillo, with Alex firing home from the rebound five minutes from time.
Jeff Larentowicz had put Chicago back in front from the penalty spot three minutes beforehand, with Atlanta’s Deon McCauley having earlier cancelled out Quincy Amarikwa’s 50th minute opener. Both sides were reduced to 10 men in the first half.
