Loan watch - first goal for Simon
04 November 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Simon Dawkins’ first goal for Derby County was not enough for the Rams to avoid defeat at Queens Park Rangers on another busy weekend for our loanees.
Simon’s strike mid-way through the first half saw the Rams draw level after Jermaine Jenas’ early opener, but Clint Hill won it for the R’s after the interval.
The match pitted some of our loanees against each other; Benoit Assou-Ekotto played 90 minutes for the hosts, while Simon lasted 72 minutes for the Rams, with full-back Adam Smith an unused substitute. Tom Carroll remains sidelined for QPR through his ankle injury.
Elsewhere in the Championship, Bongani Khumalo’s Doncaster Rovers incurred a third successive defeat when they went down 3-1 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.
In the Premier League, Jake Livermore returned to action for Hull City in their 1-0 win over Sunderland.
The central midfielder had been forced to sit out last week’s double header at White Hart Lane under the terms of his loan, but he was back with a bang on Saturday, rattling the woodwork in the second half as Hull sought to increase their lead over a Black Cats side down to nine men following two first half dismissals.
Grant Hall, Alex Pritchard and Ryan Mason all started for Swindon Town, as they notched a 5-2 victory over Port Vale in League One.
Alex set up Nile Ranger for Swindon’s second goal of the afternoon, while Ryan was withdrawn from the action with 12 minutes left.
Goalkeeper Laurence Vigouroux had another busy afternoon for Hyde FC in the Skrill Premier, as the Tigers were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Nuneaton Town.
It was a hectic finish at Ewen Fields, as Hyde thought they’d won it through Scott Spencer in the 91st minute, only for Nuneaton to reply virtually straight from the kick-off through Dave Hibbert.
In Spain, Yago Falque started for Rayo Vallecano in their 3-2 defeat at home to Real Madrid in La Liga. Yago was substituted in the 68th minute, by which time Madrid were already 3-2 up.
Cristian Ceballos played 85 minutes for FC Arouca in their goalless draw with Pacos de Ferreira in Portugal, but Tomislav Gomelt did not feature for Royal Antwerp in their 1-1 draw at SV Roeselare in Belgium.
