Loan watch

16 December 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Our on-loan striker Simon Dawkins started for Derby County as the Rams continued their resurgent form with a 2-0 win at Charlton Athletic in the Championship at the weekend.

A goal in each half saw Derby secure a sixth straight league win, leaving them five points off leaders Queens Park Rangers. Simon was substituted with 16 minutes remaining.

Rangers themselves were also 2-0 victors on the road. Midfielder Tom Carroll and defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto both played 90 minutes as the R’s triumphed 2-0 at Blackpool.

There was no such fortune for Bongani Khumalo’s Doncaster Rovers, though, as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat at home to Leeds United. Bongani played the full game for the hosts.

In the Premier League, Jake Livermore played 90 minutes for Hull City as they battled to a goalless draw with Stoke City.

It was a game of limited chances, with neither side able to establish a clear foothold on the game – the points ultimately being shared.

In League One, Swindon Town were defeated 1-0 at Sheffield United with Grant Hall, Ryan Mason and Alex Pritchard all playing the full game.

Ryan went close to scoring for Swindon in the first period when he worked his way into a shooting position and tested United goalkeeper George Long from the edge of the box. Grant then went for the elaborate in first half stoppage time; after taking receipt of Alex’s corner, his overhead kick sailed over the bar.

Swindon conceded the only goal of the game mid-way through the second period, and were unable to find an equaliser.

In Spain, Yago Falque stepped off the bench for the final nine minutes of Rayo Vallecano’s 2-0 defeat to Granada.

In Belgium, Tomislav Gomelt did not feature in Royal Antwerp’s 2-2 draw at Geel, while Cristian Ceballos missed out on FC Arouca’s 2-0 defeat to Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal.
