Simon Dawkins played a key role in Derby County’s 5-1 win over Blackpool in the Championship on another busy weekend for our loanees.
Our on-loan striker went close with a header and a shot in the first half before setting up Craig Bryson to flick home Derby’s third goal.
Simon then won the penalty which led to the Rams’ fourth – he was brought down when clean through on goal with Chris Martin doing the honours from 12 yards, thus completing his hat-trick.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Tom Carroll started for Queens Park Rangers as they were held to a goalless draw by Blackburn Rovers.
Rangers’ best chance of the game arrived 20 minutes from time when Benoit surged down the left and crossed for Charlie Austin, whose effort hit the post and bounced off Blackburn goalkeeper Simon Eastwood before trickling away to safety. Benoit left the action with three minutes remaining as Rangers chased a late winner.
Elsewhere in the Championship, Bongani Khumalo went close to heading Doncaster Rovers into an early lead at Bolton Wanderers, but the defender’s effort crashed off the post. Doncaster went on to lose the game 3-0.
Jake Livermore’s Hull City take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League tonight.
Elsewhere, Cristian Ceballos started for FC Arouca as they held Benfica to a 2-2 draw in Portugal. Cristian was withdrawn just before the hour mark with the scores level at 1-1.
Yago Falque missed out on Rayo Vallecano’s goalless draw at Real Valladolid in Spain’s Copa del Rey, while Tomislav Gomelt didn’t feature for Royal Antwerp in their 3-0 win over Heist in Belgium.
