Loan watch

25 November 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

It was a winning weekend for our lads on loan in the Championship.

Simon Dawkins was in action for Derby County as they won 1-0 at Bournemouth. Our on-loan striker tested goalkeeper Lee Camp before Jamie Ward netted the winner just past the hour mark. Simon was withdrawn with 16 minutes remaining, while full-back Adam Smith was an unused substitute.

Meanwhile, Benoit Assou-Ekotto played 90 minutes as Queens Park Rangers registered a 1-0 win against Charlton Athletic.

Charlie Austin’s first half strike gave the R’s all three points and left them level on points with leaders Burnley and second placed Leicester City in the standings. Tom Carroll missed out as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

On Friday night, Bongani Khumalo tasted victory with Doncaster Rovers as his side saw off Yeovil 2-1.

But while all three sides in the Championship containing our lads were victorious over the weekend, there was no such good fortune for Jake Livermore’s Hull City as they took on Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Jake, who played the full game, was the victim of a badly-timed challenge from Yannick Bolasie which saw the Palace man dismissed with 12 minutes left. But despite the numerical disadvantage, Palace went on to win the game 1-0 thanks to a late Barry Bannan effort.

In League One, Grant Hall and Alex Pritchard started for Swindon Town as Mark Cooper’s men slumped to a 3-1 defeat at home to Leyton Orient.

Alex played his part in the build-up to Nicky Ajose’s first half opener for Swindon when his deflected shot struck a defender and fell kindly for Ajose to slot home. Orient levelled virtually straight away and went on to win the game, while Swindon finished with 10 men following the late dismissal of Jay McEveley for a second bookable offence. Grant played the full 90 minutes and Alex was withdrawn at half-time, while Ryan Mason remains sidelined.

In the Skrill Conference Premier, Lawrence Vigouroux made a number of fine saves for Hyde FC, but was unable to prevent his side slipping to a 2-1 defeat at home to Alfreton Town.

In Portugal, Cristian Ceballos played 90 minutes as FC Arouca lost 1-0 at Vitoria Setubal while Rayo Vallecano slumped to a 4-1 defeat at home to Espanyol, with Yago Falque playing 77 minutes before being substituted in Spain.

Tomislav Gomelt did not feature as Royal Antwerp drew 0-0 with Hoogstraten in Belgium.
