Shaq Coulthirst’s Southend United secured a 2-0 win over Jordan Archer’s Northampton Town as two of our loanees met at Roots Hall on Saturday.

It was a miserable afternoon for goalkeeper Jordan, however, as he was sent off after being adjudged to have brought down Barry Corr in the 68th minute of the League Two contest.

Corr tucked away the resulting penalty, the Shrimpers going on to score a second through David Worrall with Shaq stepping off the bench to play the last five minutes for the hosts.

In the Championship, Alex Pritchard provided the assist for Brentford’s second goal in their 4-0 home win over Wolves – the midfielder being substituted in the last minute – while Ryan Fredericks started for Middlesbrough as they drew 1-1 at home to Blackburn, the right-back being forced off through injury three minutes after the break. Milos Veljkovic was an unused substitute for the home side.

Meanwhile, Tom Carroll was on the bench for Swansea City in their 1-1 Premier League draw at home to Crystal Palace, as was Lewis Holtby for Hamburg as they lost 3-1 at Augsburg in the German Bundesliga and Tomislav Gomelt for Bari as the Italian side suffered a 2-0 Serie B defeat at Bologna.
