Loan watch

Tom Carroll was part of the Swansea City side that completed a late turnaround to claim victory over Arsenal on Sunday.

Our on-loan midfielder started for the Swans as they beat the Gunners 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium, being withdrawn three minutes from time as the home side saw out the closing stages of the Premier League contest to claim the three points.

Elsewhere, Alex Pritchard provided the through ball from which Andre Gray opened the scoring for Brentford in their 3-2 win at Millwall in the Championship, the midfielder playing 76 minutes for the Bees, while Ryan Fredericks completed the full 90 minutes for Middlesbrough – with Milos Veljkovic an unused substitute – as they battled out a goalless draw with Bournemouth at home.

In FA Cup first round action, Shaq Coulthirst stepped off the bench on the hour mark for Southend United with the Shrimpers 2-1 down against Chester. The striker was unable to help turn the home side’s fortunes around, however, and with no further score the Conference outfit went through.

In the same competition, Kenny McEvoy was an unused substitute for Peterborough United in their 2-1 home victory over Carlisle United.

In Germany, Lewis Holtby played 90 minutes for Hamburg as they lost 2-0 at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.
