Our young full-backs had the same scoreline but contrasting fortunes in League One on Saturday.

Adam Smith - just called into the England Under-21 squad - helped MK Dons to the top of the league with a 3-1 win at Carlisle.

He was involved in two of MK's three goals including a slide-rule pass to allow Stephen Gleeson to set-up Dean Bowditch for 2-0. Adam, pictured in action at Carlisle above, was eventually substituted in the 86th minute with the points in the bag.

At the other end of the early table, Nathan Byrne suffered a 3-1 defeat at Notts County with Bournemouth, a result that leaves the Cherries 21st place of 24 in the division.

Nathan set-up Bournemouth's best chance of the first half, only for Mark Pugh to hammer over the target from his cross with the score at 1-0.

Elsewhere, Oscar Jansson was an unused substitute as Bradford drew 1-1 at Morecambe in League Two and it was the same for fellow goalkeeper Mirko Ranieri as his Italian side Esperia Viareggio lost 1-0 at Ternana.
