Shaq Coulthirst scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot as Southend United secured a 1-0 home win over York City in League Two on Saturday.

Our on-loan forward went on as a substitute for the Shrimpers with 15 minutes remaining and stepped up to score from 12 yards with 88 minutes on the watch after Joe Pigott was fouled by Brad Halliday.

Defender Dominic Ball has also been in action in League Two this week with Cambridge United.

Having made his debut for the U’s in Tuesday’s 1-1 home draw with Dagenham & Redbridge – starting the game before being substituted mid-way through the second half – the 19-year-old played the first 45 minutes as his side lost by the odd goal in five at Luton Town on Saturday.

In the Championship, two of our loanees faced each other at the weekend as defender Ryan Fredericks returned from injury to take his place in the Middlesbrough side for their 1-0 win at Alex Pritchard’s Brentford. Ryan and Alex both completed the full match for their respective clubs.

Milos Veljkovic also saw action in the same division, retaining his place in the Charlton Athletic starting line-up for their home match against Rotherham United. He was withdrawn with 10 minutes remaining, the match ending 1-1.

On Sunday, Tom Carroll completed 90 minutes for Swansea City in their 1-0 Premier League victory at Southampton.
