Loan Watch

Five of our on-loan players were in action on Tuesday night – but only one of them tasted victory.

Five of our on-loan players were in action on Tuesday night – but only one of them tasted victory.

That was defender Steven Caulker, who was in the Bristol City side that claimed an impressive three points at Watford with a 3-1 victory in the Championship. It was only their second win in 10 games.

Also in that division, Kyle Naughton (pictured) played 90 minutes as Leicester slipped to their first league defeat of 2011, losing 2-0 at fellow-promotion hopefuls Cardiff.

Into League One, and Adam Smith was once again in a Bournemouth side that dropped points at home as they try to maintain pressure on leaders Brighton. The Cherries were held to a 0-0 draw by Sheffield Wednesday at Dean Court.

Meanwhile, Brighton stretched their lead to four points by putting the same number of goals past David Button in Plymouth’s goal at the Withdean on a night to forget for the young goalkeeper.

Another of our blossoming stoppers, Mirko Ranieri, fared no better as Braintree put five past Basingstoke in Blue Square South.

Elsewhere, Nathan Byrne was an unused sub for Brentford in their 2-1 victory over Tranmere at Griffin Park in League One.
