Loan round-up - Goal but no Carter-Vickers duel for Onomah
28 December 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
It’s been an eventful festive period for some of our players out on loan, capped by a goal for Josh Onomah for Aston Villa against Brentford on Boxing Day.
Sadly for the midfielder, his 30th-minute header was in vain as his side went down 2-1 at Griffin Park.
A regular starter under Steve Bruce, Josh also hit the target in a 2-1 home win over Sunderland in November but, unfortunately, a slight injury forced him to miss out on a head-to-head battle with Spurs colleague Cameron Carter-Vickers last Saturday as Sheffield United came to Villa Park and battled out a 2-2 draw.
On-loan centre-half Cameron (pictured, below) has started all but one game for the Blades since the middle of September, dropping to the bench for a 2-1 home defeat by Bristol City on December 8, and, after his outing at Villa, helped keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 home win over Sunderland on Boxing Day. His side are currently on 41 points and occupying the sixth and final play-off spot, with Josh’s Villa just three points behind in eighth.
In League One, defender Connor Ogilvie continues to be a regular starter for Gillingham as they look to clamber away from the drop zone. After a stint at centre-half in November, he’s been back in his usual left-back berth recently and was part of the side that drew 1-1 at home with Oxford United on Boxing Day. The Gills are currently 17th on 27 points, four above the relegation trap door.
In Australia, young goalkeeper Tom Glover has been on the bench for Central Coast Mariners’ last four games in the A-League. His last domestic run-out for them came in a 1-1 home draw with Melbourne Victory at the end of October.
Striker Vincent Janssen, meanwhile, has been out injured for Fenerbahce in Turkey of late, but was on target in a 6-0 thrashing of Adana Demirspor in a Turkish Cup fifth round, first leg tie on November 29.
