Liverpool v Spurs - team news
24 October 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Moussa Sissoko joins the list of absentees for our EFL Cup trip to Liverpool on Tuesday through suspension, while Michel Vorm is set to start in goal as Mauricio Pochettino prepares to ring the changes at Anfield.
Midfielder Sissoko has been charged retrospectively by the Football Association following a clash with Bournemouth’s Harry Arter during the second half of Saturday’s goalless draw at the Vitality Stadium.
As a result, he’s set to face a three-match ban, starting with Tuesday’s EFL Cup fourth round tie.
With goalkeeper Hugo Lloris set to be rested at Anfield, Mauricio will turn to Michel, who enjoyed a tremendous outing against Liverpool earlier on in the season as the two sides battled out a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.
“Michel is at a great level,” Mauricio said. “We are lucky to have two keepers plus Pau Lopez who is very young and has come from Spain, as well as the younger ones that we have behind them.
“It’s a good opportunity to show that we are Tottenham – not only names. Football is a collective sport and the names that could play tomorrow are not important because Tottenham need to show the quality, the intensity and the way that we play.”
Toby Alderweireld (leg) and Harry Kane (ankle) remain out as they continue their respective recoveries while teenage midfielder Marcus Edwards is set for a few weeks on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury in training ahead of last week’s UEFA Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen.
“After that we have a few doubts because we’ve played three very tough games (over the last week) and there are some issues that we need to check for tomorrow. We’ll see,” added Mauricio. “We have a strong squad where all can play and maybe some players will have the opportunity to show that they have the quality to play.”
