Liverpool a 'good test' for us - Dele
15 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Fresh from becoming our latest senior England international, Dele Alli is relishing the prospect of taking on Liverpool at White Hart Lane this weekend.
The 19-year-old midfielder featured for the Three Lions for the first time in their victories against Estonia and Lithuania during the international break as Roy Hodgson’s side completed their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with a 100 per cent record.
His debut against Estonia represented another impressive achievement for the youngster, following his Premier League bow for us in August, a first top flight goal against Leicester and subsequent eye-catching displays during our recent run of form.
It’s been quite a journey since he stepped up from MK Dons earlier in the year but, typically unfazed, Dele has taken it all in his stride and is now readying himself for what he expects to be a “good test” against a Reds side now under the management of former Borussia Dortmund chief Jurgen Klopp on Saturday lunchtime.
“It was obviously really exciting to play for England and I’m happy I got some minutes,” he said.
“Now we’ve got Liverpool at home and I’m really looking forward to it. Obviously they’re a good team, they’ve got a new manager in so they’ll all be up for it and they’ve got a lot of young players like us.
“On their day they can beat anyone but so can we so we’ll just focus on ourselves, try to play as well as we can and hopefully we’ll do well. I think it will be a good test.”
Having seen off Manchester City 4-1 in our last home game, Dele would love nothing more than to repeat that feat against the Reds.
“We’re a good side,” he added. “We’d been training well and playing well before the international break.
“Now all the lads are back in together and there’s a good vibe around the place, so it should be good on Saturday.”
