Liverpool 1-1 Spurs - Mauricio's verdict

02 April 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino experienced a range of emotions at Anfield on Saturday (April 2).

The Head Coach saw Hugo Lloris make several fine saves in the first half before Harry Kane cancelled out Philippe Coutinho’s opener after the break as a real high-energy contest ended with honours even at 1-1.

Much like our players and supporters, Mauricio was disappointed to drop points as the battle in the upper echelons of the Premier League table reaches a crucial stage, but nevertheless he spoke of his pride at the players’ commitment and insisted: “We need to still believe.”

Reflecting on the contest, he said: “It was a tough game, Liverpool have some unbelievable players and in the first half it was difficult for both teams. They created chances, us too.

“In the second half we started well and were unlucky to concede a goal early. We feel proud because the players fought and tried to get back into the game, we scored and nearly won but, it’s true, the feeling is not good because we dropped two points – but we can believe that we can do good things in the future. We showed character and for that, we need to feel proud and still believe.

“The mentality of the team is perfect and after the way we played today we can feel proud.”
