Life in the old Les yet!

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Les Ferdinand is delighting is proving that there is life in the old Les yet.

The striker admits he is in the best form of what has been a roller-coaster spell at White Hart Lane.

Ferdinand, now 33, was superb at Bradford City on Saturday with his trademark aerial power and physical strength allied with movement and clever football all around the pitch. He and Chris Armstrong pulled City’s central defensive three all over Valley Parade and it was Ferdinand who turned and sprinted away from Molenaar to create Armstrong’s third goal.

Buoyed by his recent hat-trick against Leicester City, Ferdinand enthused: “I always said that I wanted to prove to people that I was still able to perform.

“I think once you get the wrong side of 30 and having the injuries I had people tend to think that I’m on a downward slope. But of I can keep performing like I did at the weekend then I know that I’ve got a couple of years left in me yet.

“The only thing that wasn’t pleasing was the result. For all the people saying about how well they think I played I only feel totally happy when I’ve scored. Okay the approach work was good but I’m only truly happy when I hit the back of the net.”

Fitness has certainly been the key for Ferdinand’s revival. From the dark days of last season, when persistent ankle trouble almost persuaded him to quit the game, he has recovered to feature in every game so far this season.

He added: “I’m coming into the kind of form that I’ve wanting to produce at Spurs for a long time. The form I know I’m capable of.

“The big difference is fitness and taking care of myself better while I’ve been off. Kunle (Kunle Odetoyinbo, fitness coach) has worked well with me about my nutrition and all the other aspects of it and I’m going out there and the more you play the more confidence you get and therefore the better you play.

“I suppose the goal against Liverpool and the three goals against Leicester have all helped my confidence and at the time I scored those goals as said I felt my confidence would get better all the time.

“I think that’s been proved. I’m more relaxed in my play and confident and that’s being expressed on the pitch.”
