Lessons to be learned - Danny

23 March 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Danny Rose says the team has to learn to be more ruthless after Leicester City pushed us all the way on Saturday.

We were 2-0 up inside 15 minutes but the Foxes, fighting for their lives at the foot of the Premier League, fought back to level five minutes into the second half.

Danny was upended for the penalty that Harry Kane dispatched for his hat-trick and 3-2 on 64 minutes and when Jeffrey Schlupp turned the ball into his own net for 4-2 with five minutes remaining, it looked like game over.

However, David Nugent responded again for Leicester and we were forced to hold on for the points in added time.

“It was a good win in the end, although we conceded three sloppy goals and even at 2-0 up you could sense that they were going to score,” said Danny, whose recent performances have earned a call into the England squad.

“When we go 2-0 up we have to learn how to see out the game and make it 3-0 or 4-0.

“I don’t think we played particularly well but nevertheless again we’ve shown the character that we’ve got throughout the team and we managed to hold on for a valuable three points.”

Danny joined Harry Kane in the full England squad and said it was no surprise that the striker had notched up goals 27, 28 and 29 for the season.

“It’s very scary as he’s only 21,” he added. “Obviously I don’t want to jinx him but I can happily tell people that it’s no fluke all the goals that he scores -  right foot, left foot and shots from outside the box, you expect him to score or at least hit the target.

“I’m very happy for him and we hope he manages to earn an England cap or two and gets on the scoresheet.”
