'Lesson to be learned' - Ben

Ben Davies is confident in our ability to shake off the memory of Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool.

The 21-year-old left-back made his first Premier League appearance for us following his summer switch from Swansea City when he replaced Danny Rose in the 72nd minute of our 3-0 reverse at White Hart Lane.

Goals from Raheem Sterling and Alberto Moreno, with a Steven Gerrard penalty sandwiched in between, saw the Reds take a commanding lead inside an hour.

While he admitted his task following his subsequent introduction was likely to be a thankless one, Ben insists we are capable of making a quick return to winning ways after the international break.

“The result was disappointing but it’s a lesson to be learned and I’m sure we’ll find out what we’re really made of now after this first defeat,” said Ben, who started both legs of our 5-1 Europa League Play-Off aggregate win against AEL Limassol.

“Personally, I always think as a defender going on you can’t really affect the game too much going forward but you can definitely affect it if you make a mistake or concede a goal. It’s quite difficult as a defender to go on but thankfully I did manage to get forward when I could.

“We’ve had a good start, though, and we’ve played some good football as well so it’s a shame for everyone to be dwelling on this game now.

“I think we should focus on the good games that we’ve played and try and keep all the momentum we had.”

With the international break upon us, Ben now links up with the Wales squad for their Euro 2016 qualifier against Andorra next Tuesday, September 9.

Naturally, the defender is keen for his country to make a winning start to their campaign.

“It’s always nice to meet up and play for your country,” he added. “It’s the first game of qualification for us against Andorra so hopefully we’ll be able to pick up three points to start with.”
