Les praise for kids
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Les Ferdinand, at 34 certainly the most experienced head in our current line-up, praised the club’s youngsters again after the goalless draw against Aston Villa.
Six players aged 21 or under featured on Saturday and Les believes one or two may just save boss Glenn Hoddle a pound or two in the transfer market.
Les insisted: “It’s been difficult at times for the manager so far because we’ve had to bed youngsters in and give them an opportunity.
“But they’ve done well, not let themselves down and where the manager may have felt that he needed to strengthen the team he might have looked at those youngsters and thought, get a good pre-season under their belts, a few more games and we’ll have a very good set-up.
“It’s been a case of the younger lads having to gain experience because we haven’t the players around to put in there. But the experience will bode them well for the start of next season.”
Les had our best chance in the 0-0 draw but was left to rue the fact that he made too good a connection to Simon Davies’ cross-shot in the first half and ballooned the ball over from six yards.
The striker added: “We had had the better of the first half and they had the better of the second. It’s our first clean sheet for a while and it was nice to get that.
“We had a few chances and I should have scored from Simon Davies’ shot, it caught the wrong side of my foot and I got it on the rise, perhaps a bad touch would have been better!
“In the first half we looked good and passed the ball around well and looked like we could score goals in every attack but unfortunately we couldn’t keep the momentum going and they got the upper hand.”
