Les on the defensive
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Goal hero Les Ferdinand turned the spotlight on the defence after our demolition of Fulham.
All eyes were on 'Sir Les' after his opening goal was confirmed as the 10,000th goal in the Premiership's history.
But the 35-year-old hitman heaped praise on our defensive unit who kept a second-successive clean sheet and were so ompressive against the threat of Saha, Boa Morte and Hayles after the disappointments against Charlton the week before.
Les said: "we were resilient at the back and we've been talking about the strikers for weeks now, we've been scoring goals and we tend to hog the headlines, but the back three, five or eight need to be mentioned because they have played fantastically well for us.
"It is all about confidence. You look around and everyone is playing with confidence and that enables us to go out and perform how we're performing at the moment."
Although delighted to have bagged the golden goal and the £10,000 cheque for charity with it, Les insists the important thing was it kick-started out 4-0 victory.
"That's the important thing," he confirmed. "Everyone has been talking about the 10,000th goal and that's an achievement and I'm pleased to have done it but the team and the way we are playing at the moment is more important than anything else.
"We played Bolton, won 6-0 and everyone said they'd put out a reserve side and treated the cup with a bit of disrespect but it was good to play against a side who had kept a lot of clean sheets and score four goals against them. It shows how well we are playing at the moment."
As for Les, he just keeps going - four goals in a week and into double-figures already for the season.
He added: "The amazing thing is that when I was about 28 I used to say to people if I got to 33 and was still playing I'd be more than pleased.
"I'm 35 now and things are going exceptionally well at the moment.
"At the start of the season people were saying that it would be Teddy and Sergei up front and I'd make cameo roles from the bench. It's turned around the other way.
"I feel I've started the season well, I feel I'm playing well and in good shape and, like I've said, long may it continue."
