Les in goal hunt

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Les Ferdinand is hoping that Christian Ziege won’t be topping the scoring chart for too long — and our man at the sharp end is aiming to open his own account against Torquay.

Christian leads the way with his strike at Blackburn and the opener against Southampton on Sunday, while the front men have yet to trouble the scorers this campaign. In fairness to Les, he only made his return at the weekend after a short-lived appearance on day one against Aston Villa.

Les feels the goods will come soon and his confidence is due to a productive supply line that may have been lacking in past.

“Hopefully the forwards will start scoring goals soon,” pondered Les. “We had a few chances the other day. Could have done better with a couple, was unlucky with one.

“Before I might have complained that I wasn’t getting chances in games but, if the other day was anything to go by, I think we’ll be getting quite a few chances this season. I fancy myself to score quite a few goals.”

Looking ahead to a Thursday evening date with Torquay, Les is taking nothing for granted, but hints it could be the ideal time to get off the mark.

“It’s one of those games that you look at and want to progress through to the next round. Sometimes you get managers who rest players, but for myself, I’ve just come back and it’s important that I get another game under my belt.

“I’m looking at it as another springboard and hopefully I might be able to get a goal or two and start from there.”

Being such an experienced campaigner, Les is not the type to get too uptight waiting for his first goal of a new season, explaining that, as a striker, if you a getting chances it is not such an issue.

“It’s difficult to say really, if you’re not getting chances then you worry, but if you’re getting chances you always feel you are going to score. In the first game back I was a bit ring rusty, but I feel if the chances keep coming I’m going to score.

“Sometimes when you go through a long period without scoring you can start snatching at things. I don’t think I’m in that position, it takes a few games before that happens.”
