Les has a ball!

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Les Ferdinand clutched last night's matchball close and insisted stepping closer to European competition was just reward for taking the Worthington Cup seriously.

Striker Les was the hat-trick hero in our resounding 6-0 quarter-final triumph over Bolton Wanderers at the Lane. Simon Davies, Steffen Iversen and an own goal completed the rout.

The 35-year-old stated: "I think some teams have disrespected this competition by putting weakened sides out but we've taken it seriously because we see it as a possible route into Europe. We've now taken a step nearer to achieving that.

"We're two matches away from a possible place in Europe and the pleasing thing is that we've done it in style."

Les wouldn't say if he thought that was the best we've played all season. "I've been pleased with how we've played attacking-wise all season," he said.

"To score six goals perhaps you could say it's the best we've played. It's certainly as good as we've played. At times we've played some great attacking football but this time we had the ball going in the back of the net at the end of it."

And he had every right to hold that matchball tight - when he last bagged a treble, against Leicester City last season, the ball was kicked into the crowd by a frustrated defender on the final whistle and only arrived back with Les thanks to a kind-hearted fan.

Les joked: "Sully did well for me this time, kept hold of the ball for me and didn't let anyone kick it into the stand or anything. He picked it up and brought it in.

"I've got to mention the physios who have worked around the clock to get me right for this game and I'll be back with them on Wednesday looking to get right for Saturday."
