Les back on the box

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Les Ferdinand returned to the small screen on Sunday evening for his second bash at hosting ITV's new show 'Soccer Sunday'.

Due to our own Sunday commitments over the past couple of weeks, Les had to take a two week break from his new project, but he was back in the chair two days ago reflecting on all the action from the weekend.

Les admits to a few early nerves when it came to fronting a new show in what is unfamiliar territory for our penalty box predator, but hopes that, with a bit more experience, his well known easy and relaxed manner will prove to be a winner with viewers.

"It was the first shows and I think you know you’re always going to be a bit tense, a bit nervous," pondered Les. "It was live and I think it’s like anything, you are doing something new and it takes a bit of time to get into it, relax and be comfortable with it. I’m sure that will happen."

So how did this new opportunity come about?

"LWT got in contact with us and said they wanted me to front this new show and asked how I felt about it.

"We obviously sat down and spoke about what the content of the show would be. It was something that appealed to me and I thought 'yeah', it will be something new, something challenging to have a go at."

As Les reaches the stage of his career when he can be described as a 'veteran campaigner', in this day and age media avenues tend to be explored as much as the possibility of staying in the game for the modern day footballer.

"For a long time I’ve been talking about staying in the game and doing coaching and stuff. I look around at the moment and it doesn’t fill me with the most optimism that that’s the direction I want to go in.

"The media side of it, it’s not something I’ve sat down and thought ‘yes, the media side is where I want to go when I’ve finished playing football’, it’s an option really. I will see what I’m most comfortable in whatever role I’m doing when I’ve finished playing."

So is there any chance of Les becoming a media luvvie?

"Don’t know about that…"
