Leo's new season wish

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Oyvind Leonhardsen is seeking a first since joining Spurs in August 1999 — an injury-free campaign.

Leo is currently embarking on pre-season in good health, having returned to the Lodge this week after an extended break due to international commitments. His previous pre-season was blighted by fears over an Achilles injury sustained on the final day of the previous season against Sunderland — an injury that forced him to miss Euro 2000.

"I am fit and ready to go and hopefully I will have an injury-free season and a good season," said Leo. "Hopefully the best season ever. I want a whole season, a good one — injuries don’t help."

After missing large chunks of last season after sustaining a hamstring injury and later a cracked bone in his leg. He returned towards the end of the campaign and went on to top up his fitness in the summer internationals.

"I think I played quite well," said Leo of his national team return in the World Cup qualifiers. "But the team are struggling a bit and we drew in both games (Ukraine and Belarus) when we needed to win.

"We are probably out of the qualifying and it’s very disappointing, but we just have to look forward now, Norway, maybe look ahead a bit further to the European Championships. It’s probably time to look for young players and build a good team for that."

Leo has been working in a separate group at the Lodge, the internationals who didn’t go to La Manga.

"My season was a bit longer than the others and it is important to have a rest. I’ve had only four weeks off so I’m still quite fit, I think.

"We are separate just for the first days because they have been doing a lot of running, we take it easy and don’t do too much on the first days. Next week we will catch up and join the others."

For that reason, Leo and co are not likely to feature at Stevenage in the opening pre-season fixture, but he is eager to see how the team blend during the course of the friendly programme.

"It’ll be interesting to see how we do in the pre-season as we try to build a new team. It’ll be interesting to see the new players come in as well — I think the squad going to look quite strong, better than last year’s."
