Leo spurns the sunshine

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Oyvind Leonhardsen was given a choice. He was given the option of travelling to La Manga on Tuesday morning with the rest of the first team, or playing a reserve fixture against Chelsea at Kingstonian.

Leo chose the latter.

On Monday he quipped to our reporter Paul Miles that when he was told it was La Manga or Kingston, he opted for Kingston imagining the tropical sands of Jamaica!

But no, it was Kingsmeadow in the drizzling rain and the joys of reserve team football.

Leo has recently returned from a long-term hamstring-thigh injury and felt that a run-out would be of more benefit to recovering his best form.

"Yeah I’m fine," commented a breathless Leo on leaving the pitch. "I just think it’s important for me to play as many games as I can to get back in form after the injury so I’m very pleased to play here.

"I feel okay, I just need match fitness so I want to play games to get back to my good old form. I had the choice to go to La Manga, but it was important for me to play a game. I think this is better for me.

Leo was booked late on in the game for retaliating following a mistimed tackle — a little bit out of character for the mild-mannered Norwegian.

"I was a bit aggressive at the end, but I think that’s a good sign!"

Leo, along with seven of the reserve team on duty at Kingstonian, fly out to La Manga this morning (Wednesday) with Chris Hughton to link up with the rest of the squad.
