LENNON SHINES, JENAS SCORES

Aaron Lennon was named Man of the Match and Jermaine Jenas found the net, but England fell to a 2-1 defeat in the B international against Belarus at Reading.

Aaron Lennon was named Man of the Match and Jermaine Jenas found the net, but England fell to a 2-1 defeat in the B international against Belarus at Reading.

Aaron sparkled down the right flank on Thursday evening in an experimental England side designed to further the experience of some and top up the fitness of others ahead of the full international friendlies next week and England's World Cup opener on June 10.

His trickery tormented his second half marker Omelyanchuk to such an extent that a red card was shown for two fouls in the space of four minutes.

Jermaine nodded England into the lead on 34 minutes after Michael Carrick's free-kick was headed against the bar by Michael Owen and the midfielder seized on the rebound.

Second half substitute Robert Green - who replaced David James in goal - suffered the misfortune of a ruptured groin and a failure to clear his lines from a goal kick led to Kutosov steering into an empty net with the goalkeeper grounded and almost certainly out of the World Cup.

JJ was the only Spurs player not on the pitch at the final whistle, with Jermain Defoe and Michael Dawson joining proceedings on 78 minutes, but it was Belarus who managed to create a winner when Kornilenko darted into the England area and struck from a tight angle past Scott Carson - the 3rd goalkeeper used on the night.
