Legends win again!

14 August 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

The Spurs Legends team emerged with a 2-0 victory from a closely-contested match at Huntingdon Town FC on Sunday.

Two second half goals got the job done for the visitors, who finally managed to break down a stubborn Huntingdon Town Veterans defence.

All of the early action happened in Tottenham territory, with the Legends pinned in their own half.

Goalkeeper Gareth Howells made two good stops with his palms, while centre-half John Lacy was forced to scoop the ball over his own bar to avert further danger a short while later.

Midfielder Garry Brooke looked most likely to break the deadlock for Spurs in the first period, trying his luck from range on a couple of occasions, only to narrowly miss the target.

Substitute Micky Jarrett went close twice towards the end of the first period, while Stuart Nethercott’s header from a corner sailed over the top just before the interval.

Brooke was denied by the hands of the opposing goalkeeper as the second period got underway, before a well-placed header from Jarrett from 12 yards out saw the visitors take a 52nd-minute lead.

It was 2-0 mid-way through the second half when Jarrett got to the byline and crossed into the centre, where guest player Ian Langley was waiting to rifle the ball into the top corner.

Both sides had half-chances after that, but the closest either team came to adding to the scoreline was when a Huntingdon defender went through one-on-one with keeper Howells, only for the Spurs custodian to make a fine block at the edge of his area to keep his clean sheet intact.

Spurs Legends: Gareth Howells, Paul Miller, Tony Galvin, John Lacy, Stuart Nethercott, Garry Brooke, Andy Edmonds, Kevin Watson, Mark Falco, Mark Stimson, Justin Edinburgh. Subs and guest players: Trevor Wilkinson, Micky Jarrett, Micky Southam, Jason Pritchard, Ian Langley.
