Legends latest

Darren Anderton was on target for the second week in a row as the Spurs Legends team ensured the club completed a 'double' over Watford on Sunday.

Prior to the first team’s 1-0 victory over the Hornets, ex-players from both clubs clashed in a friendly match as part of Lloyd Doyley’s testimonial event, and it was our Legends team who emerged victorious, securing a 3-1 win.

Tottenham’s first real chance fell to Darren Caskey on six minutes. The midfielder tried to lob Watford goalkeeper Alec Chamberlain, but his effort cleared the bar.

Neil Smith gave Spurs the lead three minutes later as he ran through one-on-one with keeper Chamberlain. The Watford custodian managed to get his hands to Smith’s initial shot, but the attacker seized upon the rebound and steered the ball into the net.

Anderton doubled Tottenham’s lead with an almost identical goal on 19 minutes, while in the second half, Stuart Nethercott tested the Watford keeper with a header from Anderton’s cross.

Tony Tillbrook made a fine save in goal for Spurs, before Micky Southam rifled home the visitors’ third goal with nine minutes left.

There was still time for Allan Smart to fire in a spectacular 20-yarder for Watford, as the Hornets finished the game on a high note.

Spurs Legends: Tony Tillbrook, Paul Miller, Tony Galvin, Chris Perry, Stuart Nethercott, Darren Caskey, Brian Statham, Neil Smith, Darren Anderton, Garry Brooke, Tim O’Shea. Subs: Micky Southam, Trevor Wilkinson.
