Lee's belated present
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Most lads look forward to a party and a legal drink as they reach their coming of age, for Lee Barnard it was the far more tantalising prospect of a first team outing.
The striker, now 18, reached the milestone on Thursday and by Sunday he was stepping out with Sergei Rebrov for the second half of our opening pre-season friendly at Stevenage.
The striking double-act were in tandem again at Layer Road on Tuesday evening for the second period of our 3-1 win over Colchester.
If Lee blew out any candles on Thursday he couldn't have wished for much more than his excellent strike that sealed a good night's work for the team.
Typically, for a lad not given to talking himself up, Lee was quick to give credit to Goran Bunjevcevic for his part in the goal and said he should have scored against Stevenage.
"It was a nice feeling and I enjoyed it," said Lee. "Goran played through a great ball, I wanted a touch first of all but it went too far, bounced up so I just hit it into the corner.
"I'm pleased to get a chance, pleased to get a goal, I should have scored against Stevenage but I am pleased tonight.
"It's a great experience. The lads are great and help you settle in and make you feel welcome.
"It's a lot quicker and you have to be stronger as well. You have to be quick up top as well so you are on the same wavelength as the others. It's just a great experience for me at the moment."
It is an experience that Glenn is happy to be able to give the younger players like Lee, Ronnie Henry and Johnnie Jackson and insists that pre-season is about integrating all the players that will be available to him at different stages.
"He's got a bit about him, Lee," said Glenn. "He's got a bit of movement, bit of pace, bit of aggression.
"He can play wide right or down the middle. We've had a good look at him.
"Pre-season is all about integrating. We've got 11 players unavailable at the moment and you can bring in the youngsters and have a look at them when they are not under any real pressure. It's a good experience for them."
