Leds on THAT run

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Ledley King reflected on his scintillating run down Southampton’s left flank and declared: “I think it was luck.”

Leds made his late surge down the wing and proceeded to swing a pinpoint cross onto the head of Les Ferdinand. It looked a stick-on goal for Les but, somehow, Saints keeper Paul Jones pulled off a stunning stop.

Leds modestly claimed that he was in two minds over whether to go for the cross and reckons if he tries too many more some will end up in the stands.

“The space just opened up really,” reflected Leds. “It was a great ball through from Teddy. It was on my left foot, so I wasn’t sure whether to have a go or cut back in. I just swung it in and the keeper made a great save.

“I did think it was a goal. The cross I think was luck and I don’t think I’ll be trying it too many times — a few would probably end up behind the goal. I was quite pleased with it.”

Ledley was also delighted with a first win of the season that proved a fitting end to a memorable win for our big defender whose form has captured the imagination of the fans.

“Definitely, it was the fourth game of the season and it was always going to be a tough game, but I was always confident that we would get our first three points.

“It’s been a great week, the two wins with England were both good and I was confident we could get our first win here.”

Ledley was totally unfazed by the continuing speculation surrounding Southampton’s Dean Richards, but was pleased to put in another big performance of his own.

“I just trying to concentrate on my own game really, the stuff that’s going on I’m not letting it faze me. I’m just trying to play to the best of my ability, that’s all I can do.”

Looking ahead to Torquay in the Worthington Cup, Ledley added: “It’ll be a tough one but, as I said, we’ve got our first win so we’ll be confident against Torquay.”
