Ledley King said the recent victory over Chelsea has fuelled the belief in the team when it comes to taking on the regulars in the Premiership's top four finishers. We chase a first away win in the league on Saturday when we make a debut visit to Arsenal's new Emirates Stadium, a venue Ledley agrees would be a fitting place to record victory on our travels.
"It would be a great place to start and I'm sure it will be a very good game," reasoned the skipper. "The stadium looks good, although Arsenal have not had the greatest of starts there and hopefully we can go across and deny them some more points."
Two points were gathered from as many games against our nearest rivals last season, a total that was probably not due reward for the proportion of the fixture dominated by the team in white.
"Yes, we have been getting closer to the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd and it has shown in games," added the central defender. "If we have lost it has generally been by a single goal or we have picked up draws. We need to turn these games into three points for us and we have done that against Chelsea this season and we feel we can do the same against Arsenal.
"We've struggled for wins against the top sides in recent years and to get one against Chelsea was great for us. To win against the title holders has given us a new belief going into games like this one."
However, Ledley pointed out that in derby fixtures it is more about trying to do it for the fans.
"It is definitely the first one the fans look for when the fixtures come out. There are bragging rights to this game and I hear a lot of supporters talking about when they have to go into work after these matches. We would like the Tottenham fans to have one over the Arsenal fans.
"The support has been brilliant and it is the reason why we have done so well away from home in Europe. We've got a great fans who give us the support we need on the road.""To win against the title holders has given us a new belief going into games like this one."
