Led's back on the run
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Ledley King is suffering the rigours of pre-season training after recovering from his fractured cheekbone and concedes that he is looking forward to the day when the ball takes over from the endurance work.
Leds missed out on the preparation stage last summer after sustaining a broken foot on England under-21 duty, but there is no escape this time around and our young starlet returned from La Manga with the troops to continue the process at Spurs Lodge.
The 20-year-old did admit to a slight sense of foreboding at the prospect of the seemingly endless drills that make up pre-season training.
"A little bit. I wouldn’t say I dreaded it. But I prefer the ball work to the running. It’ll be good to get the first couple of weeks out of the way, definitely. Football’s what I enjoy most."
Ledley, for one, did not drop his guard during the close-season and attempted to ease the pain of the hard yards by putting in a bit of work on his own before the spot of warm-weather training in La Manga.
"Yeah I did, definitely. I think you’ve got to these days, you’ve always got to be doing something before you go back just to keep yourself ticking over.
"I enjoyed La Manga, nice weather and we worked hard. Three sessions a day was quite a lot but it was nice to be out there for pre-season. I think the warm weather does help, it nice when you’re training in the heat, I think everyone did enjoy it."
Now back at the Lodge, double sessions are the order of the week.
"We’re doing our runs in the mornings and coming back and doing some ball work in the evenings, so we’re getting the chance to do both, but the days are quite long."
So has Ledley got the complete all-clear to start heading the ball after the horrific collision at Sunderland that finished his season?
"Definitely. I’m not even thinking about it at the moment. It’s cleared up and I raring to go. Still got a bit of a scar there, but it’s alright now."
Leds made the most of the summer break and, as any young man with prospects should, managed to squeeze in two very different trips.
"I went to Cyprus and to Barbados. I enjoyed the break."
