Ledley King describes his full England debut against Italy as 'another step up' and is eager to continue climbing the international ladder.
Leds came on as a second half substitute at Elland Road on Wednesday night to win his first cap after missing his first opportunity against Holland in February with tonsillitis.
"I enjoyed it," reflected Ledley back at Spurs Lodge on Thursday. "It was nice after missing the first one to finally get out there and it was thoroughly enjoyable."
The stylish defender admits that he found the tempo and technique of the opposition noticeably different from anything he has encountered before.
"I think it was another step up and there's been a few this season that I have to keep adapting to. I think that was the biggest step so far.
"The concentration levels are that much higher along with the sharpness and movement of players."
It was definitely noticeable, the class of the Italian players, I could really tell out there and really enjoyed it."
Ledley says that coach Sven Goran Eriksson addressed the team after the match and was quite positive, but he feels the late penalty winner for the Italians took shine off the night slightly.
"It did take the gloss off it a little bit but, from a personal view, it was nice to be out there."
And Leds had his shooting boots on, testing Italian keeper Buffon from distance.
"I haven't scored in the league this season so I thought it would be a nice time to score!" laughed Ledley.
"It just sat up quite nicely so I just swung my boot in.
"I've seen it again and it didn't cause the keeper too many problems. It just shows you how top class these players are, I thought I hit it quite well and the keeper made it look easy."
Having now got the taste for the international arena, Ledley is naturally hoping for more of the same.
"I'll be looking at hopefully being in the next squad and it's something I want to be involved in."
