Ledley's chance

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

England's stars of the future go into battle with Holland tonight knowing that the World Cup could become a reality for some of them - and that very much includes our own Ledley King.

David Platt's Under-21 side meet the Dutch in the first leg of their European Championship play-off in Utrecht concentrating on ensuring a place in next summer's finals.

Gareth Barry and Michael Carrick have already been capped at senior level while Ledley and the likes of John Terry and David Dunn have been linked with the move up to the senior squad.

Platt has admitted that he could lose some of his key players to the bigger stage.

"It will be difficult for them to break their way into that squad, but I certainly think that there are a number of them who are capable of going and making the step up, both ability-wise and mentally," he said.

"But that will depend on what doors open and what doors don't. There are probably a couple of places in there that are still up for grabs for them. They've got to take their opportunity as and when it comes.

"If it hadn't been for the importance of this game, I feel that there would have been two or three of them who would have been in the squad for the game against Sweden.

"I don't know that for definite, but I do feel as though one or two of them would have been. The thing is to keep your form and make sure you're ready if the door opens, because if you're not, it will quickly close on you."
