Ledley welcomes OJ competition

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Ledley King welcomes the defensive competition provided by recent signing OJ Mabizela.

The South African international captain, who returned with the squad from the pre-season tour of his homeland, has now been granted a work permit and has featured in the last two reserve games in order to attain match fitness and get used to the English game.

Ledley, now back from injury and so impressive against Leeds and Liverpool before coming off at half-time against Fulham, was on the tour and was impressed with what he saw when OJ played against us for Orlando Pirates.

"I was out in South Africa and he looked like a good player," said Ledley. "It is a great opportunity for him to come here and he has done well since.

"He is good lad and I wish him well."

The England international is unfazed by the prospect of increased competition for places in defensive areas - with OJ now set to battle it out with him, Anthony Gardner, Dean Richards, Goran Bunjevcevic and Gary Doherty for a starting place. Add to that the up and coming threat of reserve prospects Stephen Kelly, Paul O'Donoghue and Ronnie Henry.

"It is more competition, but none of us mind good quality players coming to the club and making the squad stronger. That is what he will do."
