Ledley King feels we could not have done any more in our UEFA Cup Round of 16 second leg in Eindhoven despite our cruel penalty shoot-out defeat against PSV.The skipper knows we were the better team on the night as we came back from a 1-0 deficit from the first leg to level the tie on aggregate.
But after a good run in this season’s competition, Ledley feels we will be well equipped to make an assault on Europe next season.
He said: “We have learnt from this and we will come back next year a stronger and better team.
“This was another trophy we could have won this season and it’s a horrid way to go out, but we had our chances
“We feel we have the players to win the competition and we had confidence in the team that we could get a result in Eindhoven.
“We set out to win the game and tactically we got it just right. It was just about us keeping our shape and pushing on to get the crucial second goal which we deserved.
“We were the better team and we looked the most likely to score again, but when it went to penalties it was a lottery.
“We still realise that we have a lot of work to do to maintain our standards of trying to win trophies and that’s what we’ll do.”
