Ledley receives Mayor’s praise

Mon 12 May 2014, 10:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has paid tribute to Ledley King in a heartfelt video message ahead of the legendary former captain’s Testimonial match on Monday.

Ledley is an Ambassador for the Mayor’s ‘Team London’ programme, aimed at addressing the greatest needs of the city, making communities a better place to live, and increasing opportunities for young people. Both have also worked closely together in driving the regeneration of Tottenham.

The Mayor unfortunately cannot be at White Hart Lane for Monday’s match that sees the current first team take on a Ledley Guest XI, but gave high praise indeed during his message.

He said: “The kids in this city have fantastic talents, but what they often need is somebody to inspire or motivate them through his or her example.

“You could not have a better example of somebody who has done fantastic things professionally, and yet continues to contribute to the community, than Ledley King.

“Thank you, Ledley, for everything you do for our city. You were a stalwart on the pitch and still the King of the Lane. Congratulations on your Testimonial, have a great evening.”
