Ledley recalls the Besiktas wall of noise

Thu 02 October 2014, 12:00|Tottenham Hotspur

As we prepare to face Besiktas at the Lane tonight, Ledley King can still remember the noise from our one and only encounter against the Turkish side.

That was back in October, 2006, when we stepped out at the Inonu Stadium in Istanbul for a UEFA Cup group stage match.

Goals from Hossam Ghaly and Dimitar Berbatov eventually hushed the home fans who then applauded the team off the pitch on the final whistle.

No-one from Spurs - players, staff and fans alike - will forget that noise though!

“It was one of the favourite atmospheres that I played in away from the Lane,” reflected our legendary former skipper, who played 90 minutes that night.

“The fans were so passionate but they were fair as well, they applauded our performance at the end.

“As a player, you definitely hear a crowd like that! You’re aware of it when you’re in front of your own fans and everyone is pulling for you so equally you hear it when you’re the opposition.

“I definitely felt it that day at Besiktas but we used it to our advantage and came out on top. It’s still something I remember well.”
